Sarah Kate Wilson
Venue: The John Jones Project Space
As the current John Jones Artist in Residence, Sarah has been working in the lower gallery of the Project Space since August 2009. Her residency leads into a solo show in the main space opening on October 9th.
An emerging British abstract painter, Sarah was born in Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands) in 1982. She and her family then moved to Saudi Arabia, before settling in the North of England. She now lives and practices in London.
Whilst studying for a BA Hons in Fine Art at Northumbria University, Newcastle, she created new work for both solo and group shows in Newcastle and Leeds. On completion of her Degree she moved to New York (2006), where she made a new series of drawings, which are now directly influencing her current paintings.
Sarah has also been commissioned for private and public pieces of artwork, and projects. She has continued to make large-scale wall paintings’, works on canvas and drawings, enjoying the use of materials that are ephemeral and relate to contemporary culture.
Sarah is an artist who creates ambitious, overtly pretty and often very demanding works. Her wall paintings highlight the desire to place work directly in the ‘Real-World’ and provoke and challenge the way the audience has to think about painting.
Throughout her residency, Sarah has been available to introduce her work to anyone who is interested in knowing more, as well as to clients and to her peers. As part of her solo show there will be artist’s talks and a panel discussion.
