John Jones are proud to offer free fine art workshops for final year and mature students at Universities, art colleges and studio groups across London, including Central St Martins, The Slade, Goldsmiths and Camberwell.
We are regularly required to re-stretch and restore fine art, repairing and replacing weak and poorly measured artwork supports produced using cheap, low quality materials. This has inspired our team to educate emerging artists on the importance of selecting the right support for your artwork, and preparing the surface correctly. This greatly helps to protect work long-term, avoiding problems such as warping and surface deterioration. We run popular workshops with UK art colleges and universities free of charge.
Our workshops last approximately 90 minutes and are led by practising artists and trained technicians from the John Jones team. Each workshop includes practical demonstrations on how to knock together stretchers and stretch artwork canvases correctly. Q&A sessions allow the group to discuss individual surface problems, discover which surfaces are most appropriate for individual styles and techniques, and find out how to maximise the longevity of artwork through material choices.
