Frame Design

Frame Design

The subtleties of quality frame design can make a significant difference to the overall impact of your artwork. Our specialist frame designers believe that contemporary frames and collectors frames should gently enhance the artwork within them, without distracting the eye - unless of course the objective is to make a statement.

The design of a contemporary picture frame is affected by four key components:

• The shape of the profile
• The material
• The colour of the profile
• The proportions of the frame

Alongside these key elements, presentation style and frame glazing can also impact the overall result.

We are the only specialist framers in the UK - and to our knowledge, the world - with our own bespoke woodmill. This means we can create unique specialist frame shapes overnight. Our finishing team and creative colourists can colour match and interpret colour, resulting in truly exceptional contemporary frames which complement the artwork and your interior design.

Strong, clean corners are a sign of a well joined picture frame, and are a speciality of our London frame joining team.  As well as functional, corner joins can also be decorative frame features – spliced corner joints are particularly popular, as are the typical Ben Nicholson style lap joints.
Our framing specialists have a huge library of collectors frames and existing contemporary frame designs to choose from - including the signature artist frame styles we designed for Francis Bacon and David Hockney. Contact our London framing consultants to learn more.
