Frame Design

Design

Our collaborations with interior designers and artists has created a legacy of signature pieces.

With forty years experience, we work closely with galleries and their artists to complete the realisation of their exhibitions by creating unique framing solutions that respond to the context of the work as well as the aesthetics.

Our team of highly skilled craftspeople can produce a range of beautifully designed frames using welded aluminium and brass, Perspex, and timber sourced from environmentally sustainable forests.

The range of designs we offer is virtually unlimited with over 600 samples in our profile gallery. Because we have our own woodmill and metalwork facilities situated on-site at our 38,000sq ft north London workshop, we can produce any size frame, in any material or shape.

Our colouring department is able to match any colour or tone, applying special finishes by hand. These can include anything from marbling to multi-layered moon gold with white-gold leaf. We also consider the environmental impact of our frames, using eco-friendly paints and water-based stains and lacquers.

Having the facilities in-house gives us the flexibility to work to our clients’ requirements, and the confidence of knowing that every element of every frame is made with the same precise attention to detail.

Our consultants will work with you to discuss the specifity of the site where the work is to be displayed to address any extra considerations that may need to be taken into account at the design stage, allowing you to make an informed decision about the type of frame that is right for you.

Lightboxes

Through discussions with the Isaac Julien Studio we were able to develop a specialised design for John Jones first light box. Our glowBox is a bespoke, light frame as opposed to a light box, designed with a guaranteed lifetime of approximately 40,000 hours of constant use.

A traditional light box radiates a large amount of heat which many artists have found to eventually lead to the deterioration of the image being lit. The power requirement for our lighting system is similar to a laptop computer and is situated outside of the frame resulting in a minimum amount of heat radiating onto the image. The light produced by the LED source in our frames is dispersed through a sheet of Perspex, emitting an even distribution of light illuminating the printed image and radiating the colours that it contains.

Our glowBox is constructed using welded aluminium and can be made in a range of sizes up to 280cm x 120cm. The frame itself is one of the slimmest on the market with a depth of just under 60mm. Our finishing department are also able to finish to the a colour of your choice.
