Artist Surfaces - Priming

Priming
With a properly prepared canvas, artists find that each layer of colour glides on to the surface in a "buttery" manner. With the proper consistency of application, a painting entirely devoid of brushstrokes can be readily achieved. As well as offering a large choice of supports, we also offer a good range and choice of primers to cover them with.
We supply Golden acrylic gesso and Roberson’s acrylic gesso, both flexible white primers for painting straight onto raw canvas or linen. Acrylic gesso has a slight tooth to the surface. Roberson’s acrylic primer is smoother. Roberson’s oil primer is a perfect less absorbent ground for oil painting only and is applied in 2-3 coats over rabbit’s skin size. Golden sandable hard gesso is for perfect for wooden panels and can be primed and sanded to an ultra smooth finish.
In addition we sell a selection of essential tools such as staples, pliers and priming brushes.
Priming Service
Our team of technicians offers a hand brush priming service for your canvases, both in acrylic and oil primer and up to as many coats as you desire. We can also work with you on your chosen specification of application if required. We use our highest grade of primers with the Roberson or Golden range; alternatively we are happy to use your chosen brand.
We can also spray prime onto pre-primed canvas or linen in our specialist spray booth to give an ultra smooth finish.
