Artist Surfaces Workshops
Over recent years we have experienced increased demand from Collectors and Art Institutions for our re-stretching and restoration services. This is mainly due to artists' original supports being weak or out of square, leading to longer term problems with the work. Through our workshops we aim to ensure that artists are fully informed on the importance of selecting the correct supports and preparing the surface so that later problems such as warping and surface deterioration can be avoided to the greatest extent.
In 2008 we developed our first Artist Surfaces workshop for the MA Fine Art Students at Central Saint Martins. This led to a request from SPACE Studios in London to run a series of workshops for their artists. The response has been overwhelming with all workshops being fully booked. We are continuing to run workshops for colleges and studio groups across London and are now beginning to offer workshops throughout the UK.
Our workshops last approximately 90 minutes and are led by the head technician of our artist surfaces department at John Jones. Intended to stimulate discussion about the current surfaces that participating artists are using, the workshops enable us to address any technical problems that the artists may be tackling. During the workshop our technicians work with the artists to readdress the fundamentals of stretching, advising on how to select the most appropriate surfaces for their work and considerations to take in order to maximize longevity.

New Artist Surfaces Stretching Workshop
Due to the unprecedented level of interest we received through our original Artist Surfaces workshop we are about to launch a new stretching workshop.
This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn the techniques of stretching canvas from our own professional team. Our new workshop offers you the opportunity to take home a stretcher that you will prepare with us on site with one to one advice from our technicians.
