John Jones framing for Sebastiaan Bremer’s Σπήλαιο (Spilaio) exhibit at Hales Gallery

On 2nd February 2015, Hales Gallery launched Σπήλαιο (Spilaio), its fourth solo exhibition with Dutch-born, New York-based artist Sebastiaan Bremer. The exhibition, taking its title from the Greek word Σπήλαιο (spilaio), meaning “cave”, comes to life through an amalgamation of various elements, objects and media combined to create a single large-scale installation occupying the entire space of the gallery. Atom Gallery showcases all-female exhibition Disturbance 28 February – 8 March

Disturbance is an all-female exhibition set to open at Finsbury Park’s new Atom Gallery from 28th February – 8th March, curated and organised by Paula MacArthur and Wendy Saunders. Disturbance draws together work from nine artists using different media: sculpture, video, photography, installation, painting, text and performance. The artists take conventional objects or images and disrupt them. Read more

Charles March exhibits Abstract and Intentional at Hamiltons Gallery until 14 February

John Jones was delighted to dry mount and frame March’s photographs for this exhibition. Our Design Consultants chose to dry mount the photographs onto inert aluminium with an acid free paper lining to create a smooth image surface. They displayed the works in a minimal poplar wood profile, sprayed in a heritage white finish, and glazed in Perspex which protects against damaging ultra violet light rays. The frames were fitted with museum additions to prevent acid migrating into the photographs over time. Read more

Silencing the Avant-Garde: Censorship and Film in the Soviet Union at GRAD 5 February

On Thursday 5th February from 6.30pm – 8.00pm the Gallery for Russian Art and Design, also known as GRAD, will be holding a free event to examine the impact of censorship on the arts during the early years of Stalin’s rule and the onset of Socialist Realism. The second event in GRAD’s series of collaborations with the Kino Klassika Foundation will feature Justine Waddell in conversation with European and Russian cinema specialist Ian Christie. The discussion will focus on film and film music and will be complemented by a selection of extracts from Soviet productions of the 1920s and 1930s. Read more

John Jones was pleased to provide artist surfaces and frame selected works for Penelope Kupfer's upcoming exhibition, Insects, at The Vault Gallery this January. The exhibition brings together contemplative and meditative research into the concept of food through the pretext of a polemic dish: insects. The idea behind the artist’s drawings is that eating choices are also the manifestation of an anxiety related to immortality. Eating is the wish to perpetuate one’s existence. Read more
