Maurizio's Batchelor Pad for GQ
John Jones were delighted to be involved in an exciting collaboration with Interior Designer Maurizio Pellizzoni to provide framed artworks for his special interior design feature 'Batchelor Pad' in July's GQ Magazine. Here's Maurizio's personal blog about the shoot:
"After months of preparation, we’re delighted to share our latest project with you! Maurizio was delighted to collaborate with GQ Magazine to style the Bachelor Pad feature in the July issue, out now.
Maurizio was given carte blanche to source the location and theme two room settings. Scouting for a wedding venue for him and his partner, he came across a Grade II listed former chapel in Peckham by chance and instantly knew it was the perfect location. The Asylum is a part ruined Georgian chapel that would be the ideal backdrop for the luxurious pieces that would fill it for the shoot. With an abundance of ideas, Maurizio knew he wanted to create something that was masculine and unique and industrial chic evolved as the key theme. Originally set on a living room anchored with a Baby Grand piano, Maurizio’s natural design prowess expanded the narrative into two room sets - a living room adjacent to a music room. The process evolved over four months from presenting the visual mood boards to the team at GQ, creating room set floor plans, visiting suppliers and sourcing items, he even found some of the final accessories exposed via social media.
As the location is a large open space, Maurizio felt it was important to incorporate some of the architectural features in the schemes. The partially destroyed wall doorway behind the Poliform bookcase leaks light in through the window but more importantly displays the contrast of rough texture. As with all of Maurizio’s projects, it was important to respect the appearance of the original structure of the building. He worked with the existing colours to select the final pieces to create a masculine ambience with a touch of luxury and add colour throughout using a display of artworks. Maurizio set out to translate his passion for design, art and beautiful interiors to GQ readers, but most of all, to challenge perceptions of standard interpretations of luxury. The team at GQ were thrilled with the final dressing of the sets, we hope you like it just as much!
