Rob and Nick Carter present over 20 works at the Fine Art Society, Contemporary from 14th January – 19th February 2015. The exhibition entitled, Chinese Whispers, marks the development of a series first glimpsed in their acclaimed exhibition at The Fine Art Society, Contemporary in 2013, and coincides with the publication of a new book, of the same title.
At the heart of this exhibition is the exploration of the notion of truth. The Carters commissioned selected Warhol works to be reproduced by professional artists in China. The resulting copies were replicated again in different workshops. This process was repeated with each reproduction, with each individual copyist making subtle, almost imperceptible changes to their own version. These alterations build on each other, layer upon layer, until the final version emerges, a faithful reproduction of its predecessor but a stark contrast to the original image; an artistic Chinese whisper.
John Jones are pleased to have framed all of the works for the forthcoming exhibition, Chinese Whispers, including an exhibition highlight that comprises 50 individually framed iterations of Warhol’s iconic piece, The Last Supper, which spans a total of nine metres when installed. John Jones Design Consultants chose to frame The Last Supper works in minimal poplar wood profiles which were sprayed in three coats of a special white rising finish. Our Artwork Presentation Technicians mounted each work using Mylar photo corners and displayed them using conservation grade heritage white window mounts.
