Hamilton’s Gallery present Horst Vintage 25 September – 24 November
25 September 2014
Hamilton’s Gallery are exhibiting 35 rare prints from highly esteemed photographer Horst P. Horst between 25 September and 24 November, to coincide with the Victoria & Albert Museum’s current retrospective Horst: Photographer of Style.
Hamilton’s have represented Horst since the 1980s. For the exhibition entitled, Horst Vintage, they will be presenting prints from Horst’s estate shot for Vogue in Paris, New York and London between the thirties and fifties. Horst was recognised as Vogue’s primary photographer during this period. His sophisticated images focus on his fascination with the female form. They were praised for their classic aesthetic, surrealist undertones and unique use of lighting.
Horst’s photography has an air of glamour and our design consultants wanted to reflect this in the way the works were framed. They chose a combination of conservation grade painted and stained wooden and brass frames, with beautifully bespoke gesso, colour-wash and gilt finishes. They were designed to echo the framing John Jones also produced for the major exhibition currently on show at Victoria & Albert Museum, Horst: Photographer of Style.
