Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Award – Call for Submissions

After the enormous success of the first series, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year returns for a second time to search across the UK and Ireland for a new ‘Star of the Art World’.

Submissions opened on 27th March and the new series will be filmed over the summer and aired on Sky Arts 1 HD in October with Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner as presenters. Selected artists will be invited to attend one of six heats across the country to paint a famous sitter. The London heats will take place on 27th – 28th May.

Almost 2,000 artists entered in the awards inaugural year and the judges selected four talented finalists. The 25 year old Nick Lord was announced as the winner and awarded a £10,000 commission to paint author Hillary Mantel for the British Library. This year, the winner will be awarded a major commission for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as well as a year’s supply of art materials provided by Cass Art.
