Recipient of the 2014 John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship: Matthew Pillsury
22 April 2014
Recipient of 2014 John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, Matthew Pillsbury, is currently exhibiting his most recent series of photographing in Japan.
Reflecting our complex and evolving relationship to technology, culture, and to each other, Matthew Pillsbury uses long exposure to portray “his human subjects in blurred movement, as voyeuristic energy in contrast to the still world around them.”
Matthew Pillsbury received his BA in fine art from Yale University in 1995 and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, in 2004. His work has been exhibited internationally and in private and museum collections, including the Sir Elton John Photography Collection, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim Museum, Musée du Louvre, Paris and Tate Modern, London. In 2007, Pillsbury won the prestigious Prix HSBC pour la Photographie.
