‘Painter, Painter: Dan Perfect, Fiona Rae’
07 April 2014
The Timothy Taylor Gallery have announced British painters, and husband and wife, Dan Perfect and Fiona Rae’s joint exhibition, 'Painter, Painter: Dan Perfect, Fiona Rae', at Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery from 3rd May – 6th July.
The exhibition is the couple’s first major overview of both their practices, and the first exhibition dedicated solely to painting at the gallery for many years. The exhibition, curated by Tristram Aver, will travel to Southampton City Art Gallery 18th July – 18th October.
Dan Perfects’s large scale abstract paintings depict dense interior landscapes filled with hybrid figures, dream catchers and masks, which references to science fiction and the unconscious. He studied at both Chelsea School of Art and Central Saint Martin’s and is well-known for exhibiting in New Speak; British Art Now at the Saatchi Gallery.
Fiona Rae explores what it is to be a ‘modern painter’ by questioning tradition. She trained at Goldsmiths and has exhibited in the Turner Prize and Sensations: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection at the Royal Academy of Art.
Both artists are interested in the overlap between the abstract and the representational world, and draw inspiration from how technology and cultural media influence our experiences. Painter, Painter will highlight conceptual links between the couple’s works which manifest in different aesthetic outcomes.
