Art in a Box; a Celebrity Art Project

Art in a Box are auctioning a series of artworks by celebrities to support Upbeat Music, an inspiring Mental Health Charity. The auction will raise funds for Upbeat Music which will enable them to continue their fantastic open mic nights and musical workshops.

AIAB sent an easel, paints and canvas to 15 famous names with the instructions to produce up to three original works in keeping with the theme ‘Upbeat’. The works go on public display at the Store Street Galleries Central London Space from 20th – 23rd May. Afterwards, the paintings will travel to the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce to be auctioned on the 23rd May. All bids can be placed in advance on www.eazl.co.uk and a series of limited editions will be available to purchase after the exhibition.

The exhibition features original paintings by the lead guitarist of Blur Graham Coxon, TV presenter Leigh Francis’s alter ego Keith Lemon, lead singer of Coldplay Chris Martin, Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, and Cricket Legend Sir Ian Botham. The results of this commission display humour, creative imagination and an array of styles and abilities.

Camden based, Upbeat Music, receive referrals from the NHS from Mental Health sufferers who will benefit from rehabilitation through a creative outlet such as group music sessions. Previously funded by Camden Council, Upbeat Music saw a decrease in funding due to government cut backs and are now looking to secure enough to fund their workshops during the second half of 2014 and throughout 2015.
