Michael Goedhuis and Mallett Antiques have collaborated to showcase Wei Ligang’s exhibition, Chinese Palaces, for Asia Art Week in New York. The exhibition will run from 15th – 22nd March.
John Jones client, Michael Goedhuis Gallery, has been dedicated to dealing in Asian Art for the past 30 years and has recently focused on Chinese Contemporary Ink Art, including the work of Wei Ligang, who takes inspiration from the traditional by reinterpreting it to explore current conceptual trends.
Born in Datong, Shanxi, in 1964, Wei Ligang has been at the forefront of contemporary ink painting since its emergence. He studied and taught mathematics but moved to Beijing in 1995 to focus on his art. However, his mathematic training has influenced his approach to merging calligraphy and painting.
Established antiques dealers, Mallett, have previously hosted a series of exhibitions curated by Michael Goedhuis, including the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art’s important show Ink Art: Past as Present in Contemporary China. Chinese Palaces is set to be another fine example of contemporary developments in this traditional medium.
