The Cynthia Corbett Gallery: Young Masters Art Prize 2014
25 March 2014
In an era of conceptualism in art that has often let technique and aesthetic fall to the wayside, the Young Masters Art Prize set out in 2009 to celebrate both modern skill and traditional practice. Artists taking part draw upon the old masters and the impact their legacy has had on our present-day artistic culture.
The prize and exhibition, this year held 16th September - 5th December, operates as a separate non-profit branch of the Cynthia Corbett Gallery. A vast range of practices from both established and emerging artists are accepted, including sculpture, painting, print making, installation, drawing, sound, video and ceramics.
Previous works have regularly featured instantly recognisable icons from the art-historical canon, which have then been re-interpreted or distorted in an uncanny manner. This stark contrast of the historical and the contemporary has firmly established the Young Masters as a unique and ground-breaking initiative.
Applications from all over the world are now being accepted from any artist over the age of 18. For a chance to win this year’s overall prize winnings of £1,500, submit your work to the Cynthia Corbett Gallery before 30th April 2014.
