Tessa Kennedy Collection Interiors Sale at Christie’s
12 March 2014
The upcoming interiors sale at Christie’s South Kensington on 18th March includes opulent art and furniture from the collection of renowned British Interior Designer Tessa Kennedy. Featured lots include gifts from Marlon Brando, items owned by ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev and key pieces from Tessa Kennedy’s own Knightsbridge apartment.
Tessa Kennedy founded one of Britain’s leading interior design companies, Tessa Kennedy Design Ltd, which has become synonymous with quality and grandeur with elite clientele. She was awarded Designer of the Year for her Rivoli Bar designs for the Ritz and is a fellow of the International Interior Design Association.
A grand George IV parcel gilt oak half-tester bed, circa 1830, is one of the highlights of the auction. It once dressed Tessa Kennedy’s own bedroom, but is best known for appearing in World of Interiors, Vogue and the 1966 film, The eye of the Devil. Other lots include a pair of ornate European late 19th century Ormolu cut-glass Eighteen-light Chandeliers, silver-gilt George III hourglass patterned service cutlery circa 1814, and a selection of late 19th century plush velvet Ottoman tunics and robes.
John Jones work closely with private clients on interior schemes, designing bespoke display boxes for statement items such as vintage tunics, robes and delicate scarfs.
