Walid Raad Preface to the First English Edition at Anthony Reynolds Gallery
11 February 2014
John Jones client, Anthony Reynolds Gallery, will be showcasing the work of renowned Lebanese artist, Walid Raad, from 1st March to 5th April. The exhibition follows Preface to the First Edition, which Raad exhibited at the Louvre in 2013. The next instalment, Preface to the First English Edition, promises to be a fine example of how artists can apply the language of museums to critique documentation of events - in Raad’s case the contemporary history of the Lebanon.
Walid Raad is well known for his fictional collective, the Atlas Group, which showcased at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2010. He has also exhibited at Documenta 11 and at both the Whitney and Venice Biennales. In 2013, Anthony Reynolds Gallery took Raad’s work to Frieze, and John Jones were proud to frame his archival ink jet prints in Red Grandis wood for the fair. This time, we have once again worked with Anthony Reynolds Gallery to frame their upcoming exhibition of Raad’s conceptually challenging pieces.
Our talented technicians dry mounted Raad’s archival ink jet prints onto aluminium and fitted them into a plane square profile in white rising and black waxed finishes. The works were glazed in both a ‘water white’ glass, which has a low iron and high lead content to avoid the green hue other types of glass add, and a 3mm Optium Acrylic for larger works, which prevents ultra violet light damage. The inside of the frames is lined with foil strips and cushioned with micro chamber paper to ensure the works are installed with the highest museum standards of artwork preservation.
