Stuart Haygarth’s Superb Exhibition ‘Play’ Opens 8th Feb
22 January 2014
Stuart Haygarth’s solo show at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery opens 8th February. We have long awaited this exhibition as it’s the perfect reason to ‘Play’ in Paris for the weekend! ‘Play’ explores the relationship between the creative process and the act of playing, and Haygarth takes an interesting new direction for this show reconfiguring toys and games to allow for their comeback.
Haygarth began his career as photographer, composing his still life images in the studio. His works have gone through a transitional phase into three dimensions but capturing light has been a key influence in his creative approach to objects. Haygarth’s practice now focuses on collecting and classifying kitsch items, perished plastics and imagery into categories, colour and function.
“His interest in neglected and found objects is justified by his urge to give them a new life, a new story.” - The Carpenters Workshop Gallery.
Each reconfigured work he produces is individual; he focuses on making everything precisely by hand, elevating materials to precious chandeliers and high quality furniture.
John Jones’ talented craftsmen are delighted to have an on-going collaboration with this innovative designer! Previously, we have worked with him and the V&A on a commission for the London Design Festival where we produced over 600 meters of frame profiles in a range of beautiful finishes to ‘frame’ the V&A staircase.
