Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 12th February
28 January 2014
Sotheby’s renowned Contemporary Art Evening Auction returns on 12th February at 7pm and offers a variety of interesting lots from contemporary greats. Highlights from the auction will be on display at Sotheby's London gallery from 2-5 February.
Lot number 14, Mornington Place, by Frank Auerbach is especially worth noticing as John Jones has framed this star lot, which is estimated to realize between £600,000 and £800,000. Our talented design consultants have produced an unglazed, dark oak finished, tray frame to ensure that the artwork is preserved in the best conditions suited to the medium, as well as allowing the thick application of paint to remain the focus. The chosen design not only allows for the oil paint on canvas to breath but it also reveals the intriguing artists marks on the back of the canvas because of a Perspex backboard. If you are interested in finding out more about tray frame designs similar to the one produced for Auerbach, you are always very welcome to get in touch with one of our consultants
Auerbach’s work is held in highly esteemed company for this auction from internationally successful artists such as Gerhard Richter, Lucien Freud and John Jones’ longstanding artist surfaces client Paula Rego. The 59 lots also include Cy Twombly’s, Untilled (Rome), which is set to reach a staggering £7million.
