Based in Dubai Knowledge Village, START is a charity running art workshops for refugees, orphans and children with special needs, including Autism and Down's Syndrome. Their mission is to ‘heal and educate children who have suffered with war, pain and loss,’ by upholding the UN human rights declaration for children’s rights. The charity was founded in 2007 by Art Dubai and the Al Madad Foundation and has grown to run workshops across; the UAE, India, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan. They provide art education though organising a variety of workshops every week that allow over 1000 vulnerable children the opportunity to express their feelings, engage with other children and help them develop a sense of self-worth. START’s vision is for ‘children and young adults to create a future as rich and free as their imagination’. The workshops provide children with an education in art history and allow them to be mentored by practicing artists to build their confidence and creativity. Most importantly, the events give the children a safe place to be themselves away from the uncertainty of daily life.
Please donate to START to help these young refugee children have the chance to go on educational trips and art workshops. By donating $10,000 you can support over 1,000 vulnerable children, or you can volunteer your time for the Jordan Artist Programme during weekly workshops, where you will be provided with complimentary accommodation in the STARTHouse. Applications for this position are welcomed on a rolling basis. For more information about supporting START please click here.
