Michael C Shea Photograpy
21 October 2013
Photographer Michael C Shea explores identity, embracing the artist’s own memories and observations which are then reflected on his walks with the camera. These walks range from just a couple of hours to almost a full day, allowing Shea to gain an in-depth understanding of his chosen location and an accute awareness of self. Described by the artist as an ‘abstracted form of documentary photography’, Shea’s work records his ‘sense of everything previously in my life’ without the need for all of the latest technical gadgets on the market. Shea plays with depth of field and dramatic lighting to portray what he describes as “a sense of dimensionality” and our design team are delighted to create bespoke hand-made framing solutions for the artist's work.
In the Nineties Shea completed a Masters in Fine Art, specialising in photographic processes. In 2000 and 2001 he received arts council artists’ grants to fund his project ‘sculpt + toil’ and has since exhibited in many solo and group shows. Throughout his career Shea has worked for the photography department of a city newspaper and as a freelance photographer for commercial brands.
