Acclaimed documentary and press photographer Bert Hardy is famed for his work with the Picture Post Magazine between 1941 and 1957. Getty Images Gallery is celebrating what would have been Hardy’s 100th birthday and 75 years since the first issue of the magazine in a brand new exhibition of the photographer’s work. ‘Bert Hardy – Picture Post Legend’ reveals the photographer’s versatility, showcasing his work across diverse subjects including ‘the Korean War, the Portuguese rice harvest, fashion on the French Riviera, Italian immigrants in Britain, and the Chinese invasion of Tibet’. The magazine was famed for covering both domestic and international issues and quickly became essential reading, selling 750,000 copies within hours of the first edition. This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to see the photographer’s most iconic images alongside lesser known work.
“Our unique access to some of the world’s most rare and iconic images has allowed us to create this stunning exhibition. We are thrilled to offer the public better insight into the remarkable world of Bert Hardy and Picture Post and are hugely proud of this particular collection.” Louise Garczewska, Director, Getty Images Gallery
'Bert Hardy - Picture Post Legend' runs 14th August – 5th October, 2013. John Jones is delighted to have a long-standing relationship with Getty Images Gallery, framing many of their iconic photography exhibitions.
