Amazon launches online Art Market
06 August 2013
Amazon has launched a new online art market dedicated to works of art from some of the world’s most established galleries. Over 40,000 artworks by over 4,500 artists will be sold in an easy to use virtual store which Amazon hopes will "open up the art world to customers". The collection ranges in price from hundreds of dollars to over $1million for master paintings and includes work by globally renowned names such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Salvador Dali. In order to improve the art shopping experience, visitors can filter the site by subject, colour, size and price, with all works sitting alongside detailed descriptions of the artist. A full reaction to the online store has yet to be felt from the traditional art world, however the reaction from existing Amazon customers has been largely positive. How do you think the store will impact upon the UK art market?
