The Auction Room Website
26 July 2013
In recent years the online art market has exploded, with new venues springing up across the web for buyers to make their fine art investments. The internet is a great place to browse, buy and follow artists, especially if their work is sold across a wide geographical area. Culture Label Director Pete Tullin hails the internet as the ideal space to market art as it ‘is such a great tool for making retailing more efficient and convenient’. One new venture which has been set up to take advantage of this buying sphere is The Auction Room, a site where dealers can buy and sell antiques, paintings and collectible works of art. The site was founded by former Sotheby’s employees George Bailey and Lucinda Blythe and features ‘many elements of the traditional auction process enhanced by a unique and exciting online browsing and bidding process’. In much the same way as the established global auction houses, the company has their own specialists, available to give their expert opinion on any item. Each lot sold via The Auction Room is fully illustrated as part of their online catalogues and comes with a guarantee of authenticity. Each sale is conducted online, allowing international collectors to gain previously unavailable access and streamlining the buying process into a quick and efficient experience. All lots can still be viewed in person beforehand at dedicated viewings and sellers can receive their proceeds just twelve working days after the sale. Look out for their forthcoming sales in Autumn 2013.
