Sharon Leahy-Clark - Jerwood Drawing Prize 2013
29 July 2013
We are delighted that our long-time client Sharon Leahy-Clark has been shortlisted for inclusion in the Jerwood Visual Arts Drawing Prize 2013 exhibition! This internationally respected prize champions excellence in contemporary drawing, celebrating pioneering techniques and showcasing the work of recent graduates alongside established artists. A prize fund of £17,000 is divided amongst the winners, with first prize receiving £8,000!
Sharon found this fragment of unknown material on the pavement near the Thames in Chelsea and immediately viewed it as a portrait.
‘Drawing is integral to my work. I am fascinated by the immediacy of mark making and, for me this can mean either actively using materials to draw or, understanding a puff of cloud, a stain, fold, or tear as a drawing. There is no boundary to drawing – it is ultimate freedom.’ Sharon Leahy-Clark
The only intervention the artist has made to the work is to place it on ink on paper and firmly assert that it is a portrait. John Jones was delighted to present this striking artwork within a bespoke frame design hand-made in our London workshops by skilled craftspeople.
Sharon is also exhibiting in the following current and forthcoming 2013 shows:
