Amy Stephens - Aldeburgh Beach South LOOKOUT
25 July 2013
The Aldeburgh Beach South LOOKOUT run by art dealer Caroline Wiseman is ‘a tiny temple for artists, poets, writers, performers and thinkers’. Since opening in 2011, the space has offered over 50 residencies to diverse artists in conjunction with Studio Voltaire, The Royal Academy Schools and University Campus Suffolk. Some of their most famous artists in residence include Sir Peter Blake and Ryan Gander, each producing new work inspired by the unique setting of the LOOKOUT. Every Saturday, the week’s resident reveals what they have been producing over the past few days in an open public exhibition. Our long-time client Amy Stephens recently produced a new body of work entitled A Light Less Ordinary at the space. Using direct measurements taken from both the interior and exterior of the building, the artist created architectonic coloured forms which were then painted directly onto photographic images of the existing architecture. These bright and engaging shapes add a sense of playfulness and performance to the collection.
