Italian institution Museo Del Novecento is set to exhibit a stunning collection of prints by globally renowned artist Andy Warhol from the Bank of America collection, a major sponsor of the museum. Curated by Laura Calvi, the collection has previously been displayed at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London and includes 80 works produced between the 1960’s and the mid 1980’s. Iconic images are showcased alongside less familiar works, creating a psychedelic feast of colour which includes both still lives and famous portraits!
Our conservation team were delighted to carry out controlled restoration work on the collection prior to their display. Hinges with brittle adhesive residues had caused bad staining to the work and needed to be removed along with damaging double sided tape. The surface of the paper was particularly absorbent, which meant that the adhesives were moving into the paper structure. Controlled levels of moisture were introduced to the artwork to remove these hinges without damaging the highly moisture sensitive front media of the works. Our restorers were also able to re-touch key areas that had been damaged over time by falling diamond dust.
This exciting exhibition will be on display 4th April – 8th September.
