John Jones have been working with creative membership ‘Love Art London’ to organise intimate discussion events with some of London’s most celebrated contemporary artists. The next event is scheduled to take place at Gimpel Fils gallery on Tuesday 31st July with Albert Irvin RA. Albert is one of the most established and respected ‘colourists’ at work in Britain today, and has been an elected Royal Academician since 1998. Through his work, the artist focuses on the idea that ‘space is the prime element of painting, like time is the prime element of music - it’s where it all happens. In so far as painting is a language, the brush marks might be considered the verbs, the active elements.’ Albert is looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday in August, and he still continues to work as a full-time artist. The artist spent a long stint teaching at Goldsmiths College between 1962 and 1983, and exhibited his first retrospective solo show in 1990 at the Serpentine Gallery. This intimate ‘in conversation’ event is an opportunity to meet the artist, and learn about his inspirations and the work he has produced over a seven decade long career. Albert will be discussing his practice with Victoria Long, Director of Gimpel Fils gallery.
