Paolo Roversi, Guinevere sitting on table, Paris, 2004
The Wapping Project Bankside was founded by Director of the Wapping Project Jules Wright, and focuses upon lens-based media. Highly esteemed fashion photographer Paolo Roversi joined the gallery in 2011, and this collection marks his first solo exhibition with The Wapping Project Bankside. Much of Roversi’s work is set within his austere Paris studio, against a backdrop of ragged blankets, bare timber boards and old stools. These minimal images work to capture both the ‘heart and head of his sitters’, and each Polaroid is imbued with his distinctive voice. Many of the works set to be displayed in this collection are from two of his celebrated series ‘nudi’ and ‘studio’, and focus upon Guinevere Van Seenus, one of the artist’s muses. In an age where digital photography is rife, Roversi still has a strong passion for craft, and tirelessly prints and reprints his images in the dark room in search of perfection. The photographer has previously collaborated with high profile fashion brands including Yves Saint-Laurent, Christian Dior and Valentino, and his work has been exhibited globally. John Jones are delighted to act as the chosen framer for what promises to be a captivating exhibition.
The collection will be on display 3rd February – 31st March 2012.
