John Jones is eagerly awaiting the first solo exhibition of previous frame design client, artist and chef Matthew McGuinness. BEARSPACE will be presenting a collection of works constructed during McGuinness’ day job as a cook at a variety of London restaurants. The gallery will be filled with ephemera taken from working kitchens, including tea towels covered with sketches, song lyrics, orders and cooking stains! These works all reflect the franetic lifestyle of the artist / chef, and link to rebellious ideas of graffiti and marking objects to take ownership of them. Other sculptures and collaged pieces on display are constructed using found food packaging. McGuinness describes himself as being in love with ‘working on working’ and examines the relationship between employment and artistic practise, questioning when the creative process really takes place. McGuinness states ‘ I have been reading and thinking about how the artist uses and occupies his or her studio, and came to the conclusion that mine is the kitchen’. John Jones is pleased for the continued success of this valued framing client.
‘I must say after having spent some time with the work-framed last night, I was completely over the moon. I absolutely loved it...in a completely different perspective. Entirely thrilled really.’ Matthew McGuinness referring to When My Ship Comes In, ink on cloth, framed by John Jones
