We are delighted to announce Sarah Kate Wilson as our next Artist In Residence at John Jones.
Sarah will be working in the lower gallery of the Project Space. Her residency will result as a solo show in the Project Space in October 2009. Throughout her residency, Sarah will be available to introduce her work to anyone who is interested in knowing more, as well as to clients and to her peers; we will also be planning artist’s talks and a panel discussion.
Sarah Kate Wilson is an emerging British abstract painter. She was born in Grand Cayman, (Cayman Islands) in 1982. She and her family then moved to Saudi Arabia, they then settled in the North of England, and she now lives and practices in London.
Sarah studied for a BA Hons in Fine Art at Northumbria University, Newcastle, 2005. Whilst studying she created new work for both solo and group shows in Newcastle and Leeds. Sarah has also been commissioned for private and public pieces of artwork, and projects. She has continued to make large-scale wall paintings’, works on canvas and drawings. She enjoys the use of materials that are ephemeral and relate to contemporary culture.
On completion of her Degree she moved to New York (2006), where she made a new series of drawings, which are now directly influencing her current paintings.
Wilson is an artist who creates ambitious, overtly pretty and often very demanding works. Her wall paintings highlight the desire to place work directly in the ‘Real-World’ and provoke and challenge the way the audience has to think about painting.
