John Jones Collection

John Jones Contemporary Collection
Since John Jones was founded over 40 years ago, we have built a collection, representing the wide variety of the clients and contacts who we have worked with over the years. The collection includes a range of contemporary pieces in a variety of media including works by Richard Hamilton, Francis Bacon, Peter Howson, Andy Warhol, Terry Frost, Albert Irvin, Joe Tilson, David Nash and David Bailey.
Our contemporary section has grown in recent years to include new works from established London based artists such as Hew Locke and Raqib Shaw as well as international emerging artists such as Nogah Engler and Elad Lassry.
We are keen for our permanent collection to continue to grow and develop a reflection of contemporary work by emerging artists that challenges us and our everyday environment.
The collection is on permanent display at our premises in Finsbury Park and is intended to be enjoyed by not only the Jones family and our staff, but also by our clients and anyone else who would like to view the works.
As part of the John Jones Art on Paper Award at Zoo Art Fair, a winning work is added to our collection each year.
New Additions
Tatjana Gerhard Untitled, 2008
Oil on Canvas
Tatjana’s paintings provide a glimpse into an unfamiliar territory. She creates worlds inhabited by surreal figures reminding the viewer of gnomes, trolls and ghosts. Her simply constructed images usually consist of nothing more than a figure and a natural object such as a tree trunk or a giant rock. These simple backdrops enhance the mysteriousness of her often disturbing figures. Do they come from another planet, do they belong to an undiscovered species or are these the human survivors of a post-apocalyptic age? The artist enhances the hybrid existence of her figures with washed out colors and blurred outlines. Gerhard paints without any preconceived images. Her pictures express her imagination and mood. In order to retain the concept that she has in her mind, she paints very quickly, trying to capture the essential elements and then overpainting the image several times until its final shape evolves. Gerhard´s style invokes the aesthetics of outsider art as well as old Spanish master paintings.

Nogah Engler ‘Untitled’ 2007
Oil on Canvas
Nogah Engler (b. 1970) shares a tangible relationship with the natural world – but it is more emotional than physical. Alternating between the mediums of drawing and painting she uses landscape and nature as metaphors for expressing experiences that deal with memory and history.
