Wendy Saunders - Portraiture Exhibition in Crouch End, London
The John Jones Artist Surfaces team specialises in bespoke stretchers and panels in a variety of high quality surfaces, designed to ensure that artwork is both presented and protected to its maximum potential. Local artist and Fine Art student Wendy Saunders is a regular Artist Surfaces client, and we are pleased to announce her latest exhibition at Coffee Circus, Crouch End. This diverse exhibition of portraits presents a wide selection of characters, from Thom Yorke and Edie Sedgwick to members of the public met at UK music festivals that inspire Wendy visually. The artist is interested in the way the eye instinctively attempts to read and interpret faces, expressions and subtle movements, and how these signals can sometimes be elusive and partially hidden, adding to the intrigue of an image. Wendy gains much of her inspiration from 20th and 21st century visual media, and as a result her work is often the end product of many layers, through the video lense, the television screen, the digital camera to the final painted outcome on canvas. This provides the works with iconic feel, heightened by her choice of a limited but bold colour palette.
‘over the past 8 months ... I bought many stretched canvas's and linens. The quality of these are superb, the real deal as it were, and they make a big difference’ Wendy Saunders, 2011
