The Savoy - David Downes
The Savoy commissioned artist David Downes to create a beautiful artwork depicting the 2012 Jubilee pageant on the river Thames. John Jones have a long-standing relationship with David and have known and worked with the artist for several years. Our team were delighted to design and produce a luxurious bespoke art frame which will provide long-term protection to the piece throughout its lifetime on display. The bold and dramatic frame moulding was selected to reflect both the grandeur of the hotel venue and the historic occasion of the artwork subject. This wooden frame has been cut and sanded by hand in our London workshops and completed with a gesso finish and beautiful brass inner slip.
The interior of The Savoy foyer is lined with wooden panels which presented a unique challenge to our installation team. We designed a unique support system for the back of the frame which allowed the piece to be hung safely from the centre, as opposed to fixing our hanging mechanisms to the outermost edges of the frame.
