Patsy Hickman - Steel Sculpture Stand

The John Jones metal workshop consists of three skilled craftsmen with diverse experience in creating bespoke metallic frames and plinths in both aluminium and brass. In this project, the team were commissioned to construct three slim stands to support a series of delicate wire sculptures. A strong steel base provides a weighted foundation for the design, which is in turn attached to an elegant arc shaped rod. An angled groove at the top of the rod supports the sculpted figure at the nape of the neck, creating a floating illusion. The underneath of the base is lined with felt to ensure the item does not scratch the surface it rests on and the entire product has been polished to a high mirror shine. This finish allows the sculpture to be reflected in the base of the stand, adding another dimension to this striking work of art. This contemporary, lightweight design complements and extends the sculpture itself, rather than creating a heavy distraction from it.
