Sebastian Horsley hat display case - The Ivy Club

The John Jones design team have produced a beautiful bespoke display plinth and Perspex casing for a rare item at The Ivy Restaurant in London’s West End. The item in question is a top hat often worn by artist, infamous London Dandy and previous John Jones client, Sebastian Horsley (1962-2010). The Ivy’s Managing Director recalls how Sebastian often sported the hat at the club:

‘It was always worn with a bespoke suit with waistcoat and handkerchief. If he came in wearing the top hat he would wear it all the way through lunch and leave wearing it, making sure the customers all noticed’.

The hat was given to The Ivy by Rachel Garley, Sebastian’s long term partner and ‘muse’, and the restaurant also displays the autobiographical triptych ‘Hookers, Tailors, Dealers’ produced by Horsley. The hat is suspended within a UV protected casing to give a ‘floating’ impression, whilst the burnished black base is finished with rounded edges to compliment the style and character of the item. John Jones was delighted to create a solution that would both protect and present the hat to its maximum potential to be enjoyed by customers and staff alike.
