Richard Galpin - Hales Gallery
John Jones was pleased to work with contemporary artist Richard Galpin to frame the exhibition ‘Let us build us a city and a tower’ at Hales Gallery. These geometric works explore the shifting skyline of contemporary London, as new ‘huge beacons of power and wealth’ continue to sprout despite the economic crisis. Drawn to the skeletons of these emerging buildings, Galpin captures photographs of the structures, and then scores and scars his prints in the studio to reveal crude, half built and half collapsed forms that ‘threaten to fall’.
The John Jones team have presented Galpin’s collection on the finest 100% pure cotton mount boards. These museum quality boards are complemented by square profile frames with a soft sanded finish, designed to work harmoniously with the dramatic score lines and geometric shapes of the images. John Jones was pleased to work closely with the artist to select two unique finishing sprays in shades of medium and deep grey, which are balanced effectively against the individual tones of the artwork.
