Ralph Lauren - Rugby Store
The John Jones design and installation teams were recently commissioned to produce and install an unusual framing solution for the brand new Rugby Ralph Lauren store in Covent Garden, the first of its kind to open in Europe.
‘Echoing the collegiate style of the Rugby brand, the store is inspired by a traditional Ivy League environment evident in such architectural details as its corniced ceilings and library-like rooms ... The great entry hall and galleries recall the layout of the original grand residence and numerous authentic interior features have been restored to reveal the building’s storied past’ Rugby Ralph Lauren Press Release, August 2011
John Jones have produced a collection of framed butterflies and moths for display in the store, designed to reflect the luxurious and opulent setting of the building. Approximately 300 insects were sourced in a variety of sizes, and arranged in coloured themes against a selection of high quality felts and tan suede. These heavy and richly coloured fabrics are balanced against the delicate fragility of the butterflies. The collection was finished with soft-sanded frames which were stained olive green to complement the style and tone of the Ralph Lauren collegiate collection. The John Jones artwork presentation team ensured that all of the frames were carefully sealed to protect the delicate arrangement, and our installation team hung the works with the utmost care in an arrangement that worked naturally with the layout of the store.
In order to meet strict conservation requirements, none of the species used throughout this project were endangered at the time of production, and full lists of all the moths and butterflies displayed are available at the Rugby Store.
