Our framing team is often required to design bespoke presentation solutions for a variety of memorabilia, including football shirts, boxing gloves and event tickets. In this project, a private client approached us to design a unique frame for the Olympic torch carried by Gary Lineker in the build up to London 2012.
A special fixing mechanism was created to securely hold the torch in place, creating the impression that it is floating within the frame. For added detail, the torch has been surrounded by a series of collectible badges, each representing a different sport played in the games. The badges have been stitched into place by hand in our artwork presentation studio and the entire piece is encased within an acrylic display box, providing adequate protection from heat, light, dust and airborne pollutants. This dramatic piece was installed opposite another Olympic themed artwork entitled ‘Summer Sun’ by long-time John Jones client Brigitte Williams. Flags of all competing nations at London 2012 form for circumference of the artwork, surrounding gold, palladium and moongold leaf circles which reflect the number of medals gained by each nation at the games. This piece has also been framed by the John Jones team to a museum quality, and together the collection creates an interesting dialogue across the space.
These valuable items were installed by trained artwork installation technicians with museum quality techniques. For more information on framing unusual objects and memorabilia, please contact a member of our team or arrange a one-to-one consultation with our specialists.
