In celebration of London 2012, the Expo Fine Art Gallery at Heathrow Terminal 5 hosted an Olympic themed exhibition of work by fine artist and John Jones client Penny Crofts. Based upon images taken with a thermal imaging camera, Penny created a series of portraits of high profile athletes including Nick Beer, Steve Williams OBE, Mark Hunter OBE and the GB sailing team. John Jones were delighted to produce all of the large-scale professional painting canvases on display in this exhibition.
Each canvas has been hand-made by specialist technicians using artist quality cotton duck canvas fabric, and kiln-dried tulip wood stretcher bars. Cotton duck canvas is produced from specially selected cotton yarn and coated with acid-free acrylic titanium primer to create a smooth finish ready for painting. The choice of tulip wood provides a strong and sturdy frame support for the canvas, and if stored correctly these stretchers will remain in museum level condition for many years. Selecting the correct archival materials to paint upon vastly reduces the risk of warping, surface deterioration and rot which can damage artwork over time.
Nick Cole, Head of Olympic and Paralympic planning at Heathrow stated “With the Games just a few months away it’s great to be able to host an exhibition which celebrates extraordinary Olympians past and present ... We hope that passengers enjoy these paintings and feel inspired by Penny’s fantastic work.”
