John Jones have recently been commissioned to frame and install a series of 25 artworks in a private home in south London. The collection presents aerial black and white photographs of traffic passing one another on a motorway. The John Jones team opted to frame the works in a simple, clean design which would allow the series to work harmoniously together when installed as a collection in one space. Square profile wooden frames have been soft sanded and sprayed with three layers of crisp, white paint. This finish provides a clean contrast to the monochrome tone of the photographs, and each frame has been fitted with UV glazing to protect the photographs from light damage. The John Jones installation team were presented with the challenge of hanging these works in a stairwell, and devised bespoke equipment to overcome the awkward angles and install the collection safely and securely to precise measurements. When hung as a unified collection, the cars form elegant shapes, creating a calm and delicate atmosphere not normally associated with the bustle of busy roads.
