Hirst / McQueen Scarf

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the skull scarf, Alexander McQueen collaborated with contemporary artist Damien Hirst to create a collection of 30 unique scarf designs exclusively available from Alexander McQueen. This partnership plays on ‘the shared aesthetic vision of Hirst and McQueen’, including an interest in symmetrical design and strong references to the natural world. Each artwork is adapted from Hirst’s Entomology series and includes butterflies, bugs, spiders and other insects in kaleidoscopic geometric shapes.

Initially, a museum quality stretcher was hand-made from conservation grade tulip wood – a low emission hard wood with very few knots – and a  cushioned wadding wrapped with silk was stretched over as a base for the scarf. The delicate silk scarf was then stitched into place by hand before being framed within a simple square profile design, stained in black and waxed by our UK based craftspeople.
