Helen Kincaid - Salon Art Prize

Helen Kincaid was the 2011 winner of the Salon Art Prize Award for painting, which John Jones have sponsored since 2007. As part of her prize, Helen received £1000 prize money, £500 of John Jones museum level painting supports and was invited to exhibit this solo exhibition in our not-for-profit gallery space.

The resulting body of work entitled Figurines and Asteroids extends Helen’s ongoing interest in found images of objects that have outlived their purpose and are cast adrift.

All of the paintings on display in this exhibition have been produced on acrylic primed professional linen canvases, hand-made by trained technicians in our north London workshops. This high quality canvas fabric has been stretched onto kiln-dried tulip wood stretcher bars, a strong material which, if stored correctly, will resist long-term warping and deterioration. Priming your painting surfaces with the right materials increases the longevity of fine art and protects paintings from rot. These canvas supports have been primed to the finest museum standards, providing Helen with a smooth, clean surface ready for painting.

This collection of work was installed by the John Jones art installation team, who used museum level picture hanging techniques. Our team worked closely with the artist to hang the pieces safely in a carefully considered arrangement at a museum height, ideal for gallery exhibitions.
