Grayson Perry

John Jones were delighted to work with the British Museum and Victoria Miro Gallery as the preferred framer for 'Hold Your Beliefs Lightly', an edition of 250 works by Grayson Perry! Inspired by African Asafo flags in the British Museum collection, this delicate embroidery features the artist’s signature illustration style.

'The freshness of these flags compared to the pageantry of Britain makes me think that ritual can become stultified if not kept relevant to its time and context' - Grayson Perry

This piece was one of several artworks by the eccentric artist featured in ‘The tomb of unknown craftsmen’, a major exhibition at the British Museum which exhibited Perry’s work alongside objects made by unknown artists throughout history.

The embroidery is wrapped around a 100% pure cotton mount board and attached to a raised platform, giving the impression that the artwork is floating within the frame. The frame itself is hand-made in a chunky box style, finished in crisp white with an archival interior. Ultra Violet light filtered Perspex glazing will provide the piece with long-term protection, reducing colour fade and deterioration. All of the materials within this frame design are acid-free to provide long-term conservation.
