Friendship of the Peoples, Simon Oldfield Gallery
‘Friendship of the Peoples’, was a group exhibition at the Simon Oldfield Gallery, consisting of works on paper from artists whose only requirement was to take inspiration from the concept of the poster. The exhibit encompassed a range of mediums from painting, drawing and print to photography and collage and the viewer was encouraged to examine the idea of the desire to be normal and one of the crowd, while also striving to be a unique individual. Similarly, although each work is representative of the artist’s personal story for and with the piece, the forty pieces collectively ponder the use and importance of the poster in cajoling the masses to participate in cultural, political, societal and life’s events. The provocative remit of the exhibition produced an eclectic and stimulating body of work which John Jones installed at the Simon Oldfield Gallery where the show recently finished.
