Design Museum - Digital Crystal: Swarovski

Swarovski invited fifteen leading designers to create unique artworks out of crystal for display at the Design Museum, pushing the boundaries of how the material can be used as a creative ingredient. Our team were thrilled to frame work by Philippe Malouin Studio for display in this exhibition. Entitled ‘Blur’, the artwork spins a Swarovski crystal at speed, ‘extracting a prism of light to create a painting in a colourful spectrum’. The frame was designed to bespoke measurements to fit this complex mechanism safely inside with a beautiful aesthetic result.

Cut from poplar wood, the custom art frame has been soft sanded and sprayed with a crisp black finish. This dark backdrop emphasises the beautiful shine and colouring of the crystal, which is further complemented by an aluminium inner slip within the frame. The frame has been finished with ultra violet light filtered glazing to protect the artwork long-term.
