Ali Kazim, Image courtesy of Green Cardamom Gallery
Contemporary artist Ali Kazim, represented by Green Cardamom Gallery, is set to display a diverse collection of work at Hong Kong Art Fair 2012. The collection includes the artist’s first video, a site specific, large-scale sculptural installation with human hair, his first series of self-portraits in a decade long career, and delicate drawings on Japanese tissue. The artist is best known for his watercolour washes over under-drawings of human figures, creating rich, multi-layered and textured constructions. This is reflected in Kazim’s current work, which uses both sides of the surface to create a dense, layered effect.
John Jones are delighted to have framed the 2D work within this collection using high quality museum level materials and techniques.

Contemporary artist Nici Bungey is set to present her first solo exhibition at SHED in May. The exhibited works have been created over the last two years using spontaneous processes which cannot be repeated. The result is an organic and original collection which immerses viewers into the ambiguous nature of tactile, sculptural patterns. The artist creates intriguing geometric shapes which encourage you to explore your own thoughts, images and memories.
A private view of the collection will take place on 18th May 6-9pm at SHED.

The major 2012 exhibition at London Transport Museum explores the inspiration, history and creativity behind London transport maps. The collection will draw on the Museum’s outstanding map collection, and will showcase previously unseen historic material alongside contemporary artwork. The displays will explore geographical, diagrammatic and decorative transport maps, and their influence both on navigation and on art and design. This collection will use cartography to consider the relationship between identity and place, and how residents of the capital engage with their surroundings.

Previous exhibitor in the John Jones gallery space Julie Cockburn is set to display a collection of new work at Flowers Gallery Cork Street in May 2012. The artist embellishes found paintings and photographs by embroidering, painting and reassembling the images, re-inventing forgotten landscapes and faces and bringing them into the present day. The artist’s simple additions and rearrangements transform the images beyond recognition, however nothing of the original is ever removed.
Julie Cockburn is the 2010 winner of the John Jones sponsored Salon Art Prize, and we were delighted to display a solo show of Julie’s work in our not for profit exhibition space in June 2010. The artist is a valued frame design client of ours, and we have produced bespoke framing solutions to protect and present all of the artwork showcased in this new exhibition.

In celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the City of London School has invited these two artists to complete a creative project over the course of the past year. This focus of the project has been capturing the Thames river in all seasons through drawings, watercolours and oil paintings. The pair met whilst studying at the Prince’s Drawing School in London, and are both equally inspired by the Thames: ‘A natural force as wild as the Thames produces an energy which is hard to resist. It attracts the painter’s brush as a spring enlivens a diviner’s stick.’ The exhibition is being showcased in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Haunch of Venison gallery are set to display the first UK solo exhibition of work by American artist Nancy Holt, a pioneering figure in site-specific art, film and video work. Holt was one of the artists responsible for initiating the land art movement in the 1960’s, a revolutionary idea in which artists stepped out of their studios and began physically creating work in the landscape. This movement was an exploration of our shifting relationship with the forces of nature and a rejection of the materialistic modern world.
