Ori Gersht - Into the studio with John Jones and Love Art London

John Jones have been working with creative membership Love Art London to open up the private art studios of some of the capital’s most inspiring contemporary artists. These intimate events are an opportunity to meet the artist face to face and hear amusing anecdotes from behind the scenes! On our next visit we meet Israeli born artist Ori Gersht. Having recently exhibited his work at the Imperial War Museum, Ori Gersht has gained international acclaim for his photography and film work. The artist investigates large-scale and demanding topics such as life, death, beauty and violence through delicate images which balance light and shade to striking effect.

Guests will be provided with the exact address upon confirmation of attendance. To reserve your place at this intimate event, please email marketing@johnjones.co.uk

Damien Hirst - Painting by Numbers

The John Jones team were pleased to work with Eyestorm UK to design an innovative framing solution for a three-dimensional piece by Damien Hirst. The artist’s current retrospective exhibition at TATE Modern has sparked new debate around his themes and creative approach, and we are delighted to have framed worked by this ground-breaking and controversial figure in contemporary art. The finished design will go on display at the inaugural Grand Art Fair of Grand Designs, and the making of the frame will also be featured in the upcoming first edition of Eyestorm Magazine.

HeartArt Weekend Art Show & Auction

John Jones are delighted to have supported HeartArt, a new volunteering activity launching a summer Art Pr and charity event. This event aims to promote a selection of London based undergraduate and postgraduate artists, whilst raising awareness and funds for Heart Radio’s charity Have A Heart.

The Spring Summer weekend artshow will take place 27th – 29th April, 2012 at the Sanctum Soho Hotel, and will be hosted by voluntary art promotions agency Party & Paper. Party & Paper annually promote UK children’s charities by gathering a selection of highly skilled London illustrators, photographers, graphics and fashion designers, sculpture, textile, and craft makers, all under the age of thirty to have new works displayed, discovered and sold at networking ‘art afternoons’. Party &

Paper founder Monelle Bryce states “It’s exciting to connect creative people together and organize seasonal artshows for charity - the events provide free publicity for artists who are unable to afford traditional costly PR, young artists especially appreciate opportunities to introduce and sell worthy works to trade and the art-loving public.”

Islington Arts Factory - Mixed-Other

The Islington Arts Factory is a registered charity hosting exhibitions and performances of student work, and offering tuition to encourage the growth and development of members.

Their next exhibition entitled ‘Mixed-Other’ has been inspired by ethnic monitoring tick box forms that members of the public are regularly required to fill out. The number of individuals selecting the ‘Mixed-Other’ option in such forms continues to grow in the UK, and this exhibition at Metamorphosis Gallery, Islington Arts Factory presents the work of 10 artists of mixed heritage and mixed ethnicities. The work explores how the multi-cultural identities of these artists shape their perception of the world in our globalized society.

The Fine Art Society Contemporary - Resistance

The next exhibition scheduled to take place at The Fine Art Society Contemporary showcases the work of several John Jones framing and artist surfaces clients. This survey collection is a critical consideration of photographic work, produced to circumnavigate the traditional techniques and aims of the camera. The eight international artists featured in this exhibition all resist the normal conventions and boundaries of the photographic medium, exploring alternative processes, subverting the purpose of the camera and creating ‘camera-less photograms’. The resulting work is aesthetically powerful and inventive.

LeandaKateLouise

12 April 2012

LeandaKateLouise

The third project by artist led inititative LeandaKateLouise invites 12 artists to create works directly onto the walls of a gallery during a two week installation period, before the exhibition opens for public view. This process of creation will be as important as the end result itself, as the artists will be making their work alongside the other participants of the show, away from the normal privacy of their studios. The close proximity of the creative process of these artists opens up the possibility of interaction and collaboration between work, prompting exciting and unexpected results. The exhibiting artists are all at varying stages of their careers, from internationally acclaimed practitioners to recent Slade graduates, creating an exciting combination of talent. The curators believe that an exhibition is one point on a continuing line of enquiry, and this collection will reflect that notion. John Jones are delighted that previous exhibitor in our Project Space Sarah Kate Wilson is one of the featured artists in this show.

Robin Friend - Zero 10 Gallery

Robin Friend - Zero 10 Gallery

Long-time John Jones client Robin Friend is exhibiting a new exhibition at Zero 10 gallery. The artist’s work engages with nature in a manner which allows for diverse interpretation and viewer interaction. Working predominantly with the medium of photography, Robin’s work explores the increasingly chaotic relationship we have towards the natural world, examining the beauty of both nature and decay. The artist states ‘nature is a destructive force, yet so are humans’, and this complex connection is investigated through the his captivating images.

John Jones are delighted to have framed key pieces by the artist throughout his career, and a piece of Robin’s work is currently on display in our studios as part of the John Jones permanent art collection. This exhibition will be on display until 18th May, 2012, and we are delighted for the artist’s success.

Jealous Gallery and print studio have worked closely with Charming to print all of his editions to date, and this unique event will take place in Jealous’ new studio space in Shoreditch. Jealous Director Dario Illari and Charming himself will be hosting the evening, discussing how the works are executed and the interesting dialogue between artist and printer. The evening also presents an opportunity to discover what drives and influences this exciting artist, and a selection of his work will also be on display for viewing.
